LOCATION
YOM is proud to partner with SCORE International. The SCORE villa and lodging complex is located in a suburb of the capital city of San Jose, called Sabanilla, Costa Rica. Sabanilla is in the middle of the country. This is a strategic location for ministering throughout Costa Rica.
FAST FACTS ABOUT THE COUNTRY
Costa Rica is often called an "oasis of peace" among the neighboring countries of Central America. This 51,000 sq. km. coastal country is known more for its natural beauty than its cultural heritage. It is one of the richest and most diverse biological areas in the world with a wide variety of climate zones and extraordinary wildlife. The main exports are bananas, coffee, and textiles. Total populations of the country is approximately 4.5 million people; with over 1 million of those in San Jose. Roman Catholicism is the official religion with 95% of the population professing. Only about 3% of the people claim to be evangelical Christians.
HOUSING
All persons will be staying in the SCORE villa unless specifically told otherwise. Each room has a bathroom. Linens and bath towels are provided for guests. The Villa has a maximum capacity of around 50 people. Overflow persons will be staying at the CAM or Nazarene Seminary in San Jose.
CLOTHING
We ask that each person be willing to help us stay above reproach in this area. What may not be a problem in the U.S. can be identified as a problem in this culture. You can help us by rising above your personal preference to overcome any perception problems that may occur. Weather is generally warm during the day and cooler in the evenings. Please plan accordingly.
Ladies: Dress for ministry is a knee‐length skirt with a t‐shirt or a dress. You may also wear Capri pants with a t‐shirt for ministry. Denim skirts and/or Capris are allowed. Modest shorts may be worn during free time at the hotel. As for t‐shirts: you may wear a "sleeveless shirt" but not any type of spaghetti strap or thin tank top. Swimsuits must be one‐piece - no tankinis.
Men: Dress for ministry is long pants with collared shirt. There may be some days where men are allowed to wear shorts (not athletic) with a collared shirt. Modest shorts may be worn during free time at the hotel. Pants must be worn when attending church services.
MEALS
There will be a variety of food served, such as spaghetti, rice and chicken, taco salad, chicken fettuccini, rice and beans, sandwiches, etc. Breakfast will be fruit and cereal. Please bring a box of your favorite cereal for breakfast. However, "Corn Flakes" will be provided for you if you choose not to bring cereal. Groups may choose to eat out at a restaurant or fast food if they want to pay themselves. If your group decides to eat a meal out, you must inform us the day before so we can make the necessary arrangements with the kitchen.
